We all like scrambled and fried eggs, but once in a while we want something a little different that to elevate the flavor of eggs. If you’re looking to kick up the flavor of those eggs, you have to try one of the spices or herbs that we’ve been experimenting with lately!

The 14 Best Seasonings for Eggs

Yes, it’s a lot! I mentioned that I’ve been working on this for a while, right? There is a plethora of seasonings that go well with eggs. I encourage you to try many of them and experiment on your own to find your perfect combo.

Salt and Pepper – This classic duo can boost the deliciousness of eggs on on their own. These two seasonings are essential, whether used alone or with other spices.

Onion Powder – Add a pinch of onion powder to your eggs to give them a huge flavor upgrade with very little effort. You can also use fresh onions or green onion to get a more vivid, crunchy taste in the dish. Be sure to cook raw onions down with the eggs. They’re too potent raw. Caramelized onions can also be a fun addition to eggs.

Chives – If you like the onion flavor, but you don’t like its intensity, chives can give you the flavor you need but with much less intensity.

Garlic Powder – Just like onion powder, garlic powder can add an intense flavor that enhances the taste of your eggs with very little effort. As a more vivid alternative, you can use fresh minced garlic. Fresh garlic will be more potent, obviously so go light at first until you know how much you like.

Herbs- To give your eggs an herbal flavor that brightens up the palate, a little bit of fresh herbs will do that. Keep it mild at first though. Fresh herbs can be very powerful. I like to use dill, thyme, parsley, or basil.

Italian seasoning blend: An Italian seasoning typically combines herbs like oregano, basil, and thyme for a Mediterranean-inspired flavor. I like to use seasoning instead of fresh herbs because they’re toned down quite a bit when they’re dried, so they don’t overpower the eggs or start to make it look like a salad.

Curry Powder – Curry powder is a unique mix of spices that combines sweet and savory flavors. That way, it’ll give your egg dish a complex taste, unlike any other seasonings.

Smoked paprika – Adds a subtle smokiness and a pop of color. If you don’t want the smokiness, you can use sweet or Spanish paprika.

Garam Masala – Originating from India, Garam Masala is a spice mix consisting of cinnamon, cloves, cumin, cardamom, and turmeric. You might think these flavors would overpower the eggs, but when used in moderation, it actually adds a lot of flavor and complexity.

Hot Sauce– I see a lot of people adding Tabasco to their eggs. It’s great for two reasons – the heat and the acidity. Both have a way of really boosting the flavor of eggs. I like to mix it up a bit too though and use other hot sauces, like Cholula or Sriracha. Each of these have a unique flavor profile. Keep in mind that it’s a good idea to use hot sauce after you finish cooking your eggs, not while cooking.

Red Pepper Flakes If you like spicy, another option would be to add red pepper flakes to your eggs. It’s a more subtle heat than hot sauce, and it doesn’t really change the flavor of the eggs so much as adding a nice heat.
