New by-the-slice pizza shop will open in food court
The Big-Ass Slice Shop, a new restaurant in the Main Street Food & Beverage Food Hall, is almost ready to open.
Check out the Facebook page for photos and information. The pizza will be "New York influenced" and served in extra large-sized slices with toppings from classic pepperoni to Margherita to dill pickle.
The Big-Ass Slice Shop will be inside the Main Street Food & Beverage Food Hall at 900 Main St.
Biscuit Belly closed
Biscuit Belly, a Louisville-based resturaunt, has closed its Evansville location in the Promenade shopping district off Burkhardt Road. Biscuit Belly opened in 2021 with a menu of extravagant biscuit sandwiches and breakfast specialties.
New Hot Chicken Bus
Blue Bird Hot Chicken is a new food truck made from a converted school bus ready to serve Gibson and Vanderburgh Counties. Watch the Facebook Page for information on dates and location of service.
Kobe Wine Dinner
The Farmer and Frenchman Winery and Restaurant will host a Kobe Wine Dinner on Thursday, Aug. 29, from 7-9 p.m. It's not too early to reserve, the event will sell out soon. The meal will feature Kobe wine grapes and Kobe Wine Beef, which is fed with grape lees from the region's vineyards.
On the menu will be Panzanella salad with with croutons, greens, tomato, cucumber, fresh mozzarella and red wine vinaigrette; Fettuccine with squid ink sauce, calamari, olives, chiles and white wine saffron sauce; mushroom bruschetta with roasted maitake mushrooms, guanciale, gorgonzola cheese and a red wine reduction; fire-grilled Kobe strip loin with herbs, olive oil and canellini beans; and cannoli with chocolate, pistachios, ricotta cheese and orange zest. Each course will be served with a complementary wine.
Tickets are $190 per person, or $170 without wine pairings.

Jacobs pub opening
Jacobs Pub and Steakhouse is the restaurant which will be opening in the former DiLegge's building on North Main Street. According to a social media post, the restaurant will be a casual yet upscale restaurant which will be open for lunch, dinner, Saturday brunch and Sunday family-style lunch. The bar will provide a nice selection of wine and bourbons. Opening is tentatively planned for early October.

Summer cookie decorating
Memo and The Whimsy Whisk will host a "Peace Out to Summer" cookie decorating class on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Learn to make sugar cookies decorated with royal icing, decorate in class and take home recipes for both the cookies and icing so you can do more at home. All supplies are included in the cost and no experience is necessary. Must register in advance. Tickets are $60.
Murder Mystery Dinner
The Old National Events Plaza will host a Murder Mystery Dinner and silent auction on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 6:30-10:30 p.m. Solve a murder case at the "Deadwood Saloon" and enjoy a dinner of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, a side salad, roll and dessert. Tickets are $45 or $57 with the addition of a happy hour before the event. Proceeds will benefit the Creating Footsteps Foundation. Guests must be 16 years or older.

St. Philip Summer Social
St. Philip Catholic Church will hold its annual summer social on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 5-8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Both days there will be a burger shack and snack shack, ice cream and sno cones, games, an auction, half pot, a raffle with a grand prize of a Big Green Egg grill package or a $2000 Bassemiers gift card, and more. On Sunday from 10 a.m. until sold out fried chicken dinners will be served with flitter dumplings, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, a roll, desserts and tea or water. The meal can be eaten on site and there will be a drive-through.

Green River Distilling Bourbon Dinner
The Prime Time Pub & Grill in Newburgh will host a Bourbon dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 14, beginning at 7 p.m. featuring Bourbons from Green River Distillery in Owensboro, Ky. The dinner includes four courses and dessert with opening and closing co*cktails and a take-home gift. Tickets are $40. Guests must be 21. Call Prime Time at 812-490-0655 to purchase a seat.

Ice Cream Social
The West Side Christian Church and Family Life Center will host its annual ice cream social and car show/cruise-in on Saturday, Aug. 17, from noon-5 p.m. Stop in for homemade ice cream and other food, cold drinks, an auction and raffles, half pot, inflatables and more in an air conditioned gymnasium.
