  1. Raised on the South Side of Chicago by a divorced working mom
  2. Began babysitting at age 10, eventually saving enough to put herself through college
  3. Worked with special needs children as a camp counselor and in a therapeutic horseback riding program
  4. First and only female sports broadcaster on college radio station
  5. Earned a teaching credential in Special Education at age 21 from Illinois State University

  1. Taught teenagers with emotional and behavioral problems in juvenile hall
  2. Led Gymboree classes for babies and toddlers
  3. Operated home-based preschools
  4. Taught court-ordered parenting classes for abusive parents
  5. Managed a domestic violence batterers treatment program
  6. Ran crisis hotlines for parents and teens
  7. Certified in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, providing support in crisis situations
  8. Presented several hundred talks to parent and children groups
  9. Coach parents, kids, and families to resolve challenges and improve relationships
